Last Race Review: Canadian GP

The Canadian Grand Prix was tough on our tipsters, each recording a 10-point loss. Here’s a look at how the race impacted their overall standings in the 2024 season:

  • Stephen: Continued struggles saw Stephen’s deficit increase to -58.5 points. Despite recent setbacks, his commitment to a data-driven approach remains unshaken as he seeks strategies to reverse his fortunes in the upcoming races.

  • Luke: Known for his typically astute and cautious betting style, Luke also faced a rare setback in Canada, yet he still holds a positive season tally of +22.47 points. His ability to maintain a profitable position demonstrates the effectiveness of his long-term betting strategies.

  • Ant: Matching his peers, Ant also dropped 10 points at the Canadian GP, but interestingly, he remains slightly up this season with +2.94 points. His bold and sometimes unconventional betting choices illustrate that high risks could lead to high rewards.

Stephen’s selections:

First Driver Retirement – Esteban Ocon – Odds 17.0 – 2 Points
“Ocon has a point to prove now to make sure he has a seat for next year but he always doesn’t care about Alpine. He will be open to taking a lot more chances in races now and will do all he can to try finish ahead of Gasly. With also what happened in Canada fresh in his mind, this weekend he may well over step the mark and DNF”

First Driver to Make a Pit Stop – Kevin Magnussen – Odds 19.0 – 2 Points
“This is a close your eyes and pick bet most weeks as anything can happen but for me, K-Mag shows really good value in this market compared to some others.”

Fastest Lap – Lando Norris – Odds 8.8 – 2.5 Points
“McLaren will be quick this weekend but I think Red Bull will be quickest over the whole race weekend. However, I see Lando Norris being in a spot late on to make a push to take the extra point for the fastest lap.”

Fastest Team Pit Stop – Ferrari – Odds 14.0 – 3.5 Points
“Ferrari will be chomping at the bit to return to big points this weekend after Canada. The whole team will need to be on point with all team getting pretty close at the top. The difference could well be the pit stops and I feel like Ferrari are going to nail one spot on to be ahead of the rest this weekend”

Luke’s selections:

First Driver Retirement – Carlos Sainz – Odds 23.0 – 2.5 Points
“Can Ferrari have a another bad weekend? After a great start of the season, last time out in Canada Ferrari had a double DNF after some technical issues on Leclerc’s car and a crash from Sainz, I think pressure for Sainz to perform will be great at his home race and could see him making a mistake breaking the hearts of all the Spanish fans that don’t support Alonso.”

First Driver to make a Pitstop – Valtteri Bottas – Odds 15.0 – 2.5 Points
“Let’s face it, this early into the weekend race, it is like picking a name out of a hat, however with Bottas only pitting 2nd last time out in Spain, I think this time he will go for gold and be the first one in to get his car serviced.”

Fastest Team Pitstop – McLaren – Odds 7.0 – 2.5 Points
“This one will eventually come in and I will keep betting on it until I win it, I have faith in the Orange Papaya team that they will get a pitstop together this season and they will have a fastest pitstop, hopefully this weekend.”

Race Winner – Oscar Piastri – Odds 21.0 – 2.5 Points
“What are the chances that Oscar has some Spanish heritage and will call this his home race too? I believe McLaren will do well on this track and it seems that that car is getting better and better every week, Norris is on the top of his game but Piastri is very close behind so I wouldn’t put it past him for a win here”

Ant’s selections:

Hamilton vs Russell FP1 –  Lewis Hamilton – Odds 2.27 – 2 Points
“I like this bet odds wise. I feel that overall Russell will have a stronger weekend than Hamilton, however, I think he’ll start stronger and get the time needed to win this bet.”

Qualifying Winning Margin – Under 0.10 seconds – Odds 3.25 – 2 Points
“Qualifying lately has been a lot closer (or at least it feels that way). I’m going for both McLaren cars to challenge Verstappen on one lap pace, so we could see it be a tight affair.”

Top 3 Finish – Oscar Piastri – Odds 4.30 – 2 Points
“In keeping with my thoughts that McLaren could be strong this weekend. It feels like Piastri is on the verge of a great performance. This could be it. I think it will be difficult for him to win the race, but a podium could be manageable.”

Number of Classified Drivers – Over 17.5 – Odds 1.50 – 4 Points
“It looks like being a warm and dry weekend in Spain. So I don’t expect many errors or mishaps. This feels like a safe bet to me, which the odds reflect. I want to bank some points this weekend and this feels like the best bet to make”
