Emilia Romagna Grand Prix Cancelled: Extreme Weather Halts F1's Triple Header
It’s sad news for F1 fans this weekend. We will not be experiencing our first triple header of the season this weekend as F1 has just announced that the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola has been called off due to the extreme weather impacting the region of Emilia Romagna. This decision came about after a meeting between Formula 1, FIA President, authorities and relevant ministers of Emilia Romagna, President of the Automotive Club of Italy, President of Emilia Romagna Region, Mayor of the city and the promoter.
Emergency services are working tirelessly to help the people in need that are affected by the bad weather and the F1 paddock has been evacuated for safety reasons. President and CEO of Formula 1 said: “It is such a tragedy to see what has happened to Imola and Emilia-Romagna, the town and region that I grew up in, and my thoughts and prayers are with the victims of the flooding and the families and communities affected.
Safety Takes Priority as F1 Cancels Imola Race Amidst Severe Flooding in Emilia Romagna
“I want to express my gratitude and admiration for the incredible emergency services who are working tirelessly to help those who need help and alleviate the situation – they are heroes and the whole of Italy is proud of them.
“The decision that has been taken is the right one for everyone in the local communities and the F1 family as we need to ensure safety and not create extra burden for the authorities while they deal with this very awful situation.”
Although this is not the news we have been wanting to hear, it is the right decision to put safety above racing and entertainment of the fans. Our thoughts are with everyone effected by the extreme weather in the Emilia Romana region. We will be looking forward to next week’s race in Monaco.
